- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) conducted the elections with incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos and running mate, former Senate President and Foreign Minister Arturo M. Tolentino; versus the widow of Ninoy Aquino, Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino and former Senator Salvador H. Laurel.
- Batasang Pambansa proclaimed Marcos and Tolentino as winners in the presidential and vice-presidential race. The opposition called the result "fraudulent".

- Mrs. Aquino and other opposition leaders called for nationwide protests and civil disobedience against Marcos. It followed the end of Martial Law and brought about the People Power Revolution, the downfall of President Ferdinand E. Marcos, and the accession of Corazon C. Aquino as President.
