February 8

February 8, 2011 Retired Gen. Angelo Tomas Reyes (65) committed suicide at his mother's grave.
- Reyes, who headed the military from 2001 to 2003, was at the center of a congressional probe into one of the biggest corruption scandals to have hit the Philippine armed forces.

Reyes, who had also served as defense secretary and in other Cabinet-level posts, died from a single bullet fired into his chest, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said. Doctors at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City tried to revive him for 45 minutes but failed.
- "Sorry" was the last word that former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff apparently uttered as his sons and aides frantically carried him and rushed him to the hospital.
